Low to remain Germany boss

Germany flagJoachim Low will remain as the coach of Germany until after Euro 2012 (Germany 4/1 second favourites to win the European Championships with bet365).

The decision was confirmed by Low on Tuesday and ends speculation surrounding his future.

His initial contract expired after the World Cup but Germany’s impressive display in South Africa led to public demand for his deal to be extended. He will now stay on as manager for the next two years.

Team manager Oliver Bierhoff, Low’s assistant Hans-Dieter Flick and goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke will also stay in their roles until after the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

Germany impressed in South Africa, beating England 4-1 and Argentina 4-0 before losing 1-0 to eventual champions Spain in a muted semi-final. Beating Uruguay 3-2 in the third place playoff ensured the Germans finished third.

Speaking about the decision, Low said; “We are all pleased that we can continue our work with the national team.

“Our team has excellent sporting prospects and it is a big challenge for us to be able to get stuck into the preparations for Euro 2012 after the successful World Cup in South Africa.”

The boss of the German Football Association, Theo Zwanziger also expressed his delight after the conclusion of the saga.

He told Bild; “I’m happy for German football that we have succeeded in resolving these personnel decisions so quickly.”
